Angry Blikkiesdorp residents have accused Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato of lying.
Plato visited the temporary relocation site on Wednesday but received a frosty reception from residents who accused him of failing to fulfill his housing promises.
Police intervened when residents attempted to block the mayor from entering the site.
Residents became violent as he walked between the structures and a woman attempted to physically attack him.
Plato maintained he was always honest and upfront with the community about their needs.
