Members of the Gugulethu Anti-Eviction Campaign threatened to disrupt the opening of the Gugulethu Square Mall on Thursday, unless their demands for jobs were met.
The group started protesting outside the mall construction site on Monday, calling on management to give locals the first pick of the employment opportunities.
The campaign’s Mncedisi Twala expressed his frustration at being “sidelined” from the project and vowed they would not rest until they were included.
“We are going to take faeces from informal settlements and put it and plug it around the mall,” said Twala.
