Note: Why would a mob of 40 people from another settlement invade Kennedy based on it only being about internal regulation of illegal shebeens? See this article for a wider viewpoint.

THE surge in the number of illegal liquor outlets in KwaZulu-Natal has been blamed for the murders of two people at the Kennedy Road informal settlement in Clare Estate, Durban, at the week-end.
The two men were said to be part of a community-based safety and security committee opposed to the 24-hour operation of liquor outlets in the area.
Yesterday, Abahlali baseMjondolo (shack dwellers movement) alleged that a group of about 40 armed men had attacked their office at the settlement, where the committee had been holding a meeting, killing the two men, on Saturday night.
Spokesman Mzwakhe Mdlalose said the committee wanted shebeens in the area to close at 10pm, but some people were opposed to the proposal. – Mercury Reporter
